The European Pipe Band Championships 2017, will be held on 24th June 2017, involving thousands of pipers and drummers  from far and wide. With pipe band and drum majors competing across a number of grades in four arenas there will be an stunning spectacle of colour  as well as amazing playing! The gates open to the public at 09.00 and the competition starts at 10.00. The bands will play throughout the day and the massed bands and prize giving will start at approximately 17.15. The event closes at 19.00

The majority of the bands come from Scotland but we are delighted to welcome bands from all over the world as well as from other parts of the United Kingdom. We have had bands from as far away as Australia and Oman as well as bands from other European countries such as Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Republic of Ireland. The list of bands that competed  for the 2016 Championships, when we had a record number of bands registered, is available here. We hope to see both old friends and new faces in the 2017 band lineup.

To help you recognise each band in the final parade  local school children lead the bands into the arena.

Within Grant Park there are four different competition arenas, with high quality piping in each arena from early in the morning. Drum Majors also compete in the main area while a Highland Dancing competition  also takes place in a dedicated stage area in a different part of the park.

There is a wide variety of other entertainments to suit all ages and interests, with about a hundred stalls, offering a wide selection of some of the best produce and craft of the local area, located in two main areas:

  • the Craft & Retail village, which has a craft tent as well as many external stalls,
  • the Food & Drink village, which has a marquee,  featuring some of the finest produce in Moray and the surrounding area, a seated area for serving teas and coffees, and many external food and drink stalls.

To appeal to younger visitors, around the park are a number of children’s activities including a funfair, bouncy castle and other inflatables.

The entire event area within Grant Park will be licensed allowing adult spectators to enjoy a relaxed drink whilst watching the bands.
